Below you will find the updated consistency rankings for
week 8. The ranks are based on a combination of player weekly scoring average
and the standard deviation of the scores. A full description of how the ranks
are calculated can be found here.
As always, the players are listed with the relevant information so you can do
your own research and work with the info how you like.
Week 10 isn’t going to be as bad with the byes as week 9
was, but still, the Browns, Pats, Chiefs and Jets all have players who are in
starting lineups on a fairly regular basis, some teams more than others.
Week 9 saw a couple of players have outstanding weeks
seemingly out of nowhere (and mostly against me). While widely started wide
receivers Andre Johnson and TY Hilton went off, lesser owned Riley Cooper, Nick
Foles, and Darrell Young went off as well. Foles’ historic performance has been
covered in a lot of places. I’ll say that he should be owned going forward, but
it would really be a gamble to rely on him as your weekly starter. So far, he
has three usable games and two complete bombs. If you’re sitting on a top QB
and want to add Foles to trade to strengthen your team at another position or
two, I can get behind that. Just make sure you have a reliable backup for Foles.
As for Cooper, he’s an interesting case. His best games have come with Foles at
QB, so assuming Foles gets the start the rest of the way, I’d add Cooper as a
depth play to see what he can do. The Eagles face Green Bay next week and we
just saw Josh McCown have a pretty good day against their defense, so maybe
these two keep the good times rolling. As for Young, sorry, he was just a
middle finger from Shanahan. He scored three times because the Skins ran the
exact same play three times while the Chargers just refused to stop it.
Alright, let’s get to the pickups!
QB:
Case Keenum: Through two games, Case Keenum has
looked really good so far, and most importantly, he’s using all of his weapons
effectively. Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins both have useful games with
Keenum at the helm. Garrett Graham continues to underwhelm, but as long as
Keenum is feeding his recievers, no one is going to complain. The Arizona
matchup could be tough, but Indianapolis is no slouch in pass defense either.
Give him a look if you’re a Brady or Rogers owner.
Jake Locker: I recommended Locker last week and he
proceeded to spend the game handing off, his day only slightly saved by a
rushing touchdown. He might not be asked to do much again this week, but the
matchup is nice and he should give desperate owners a nice game based on his
history.
RB:
Chris Ivory: As a rule, I try to recommend players
beyond the obvious names every week. You don’t need me to tell you that Nick
Foles had a great game and should probably be owned. Running backs are
different this year, however. There’s just nothing out there. Ivory had a great
game against his old team last week. Ivory is on a bye this week, but you’ll
still want to add him for depth and a possible quick turn-around in a trade.
Rashad Jennings: Darren McFadden is hurt and could
possibly be on his way out of town. Jennings had a monster game in garbage time
last week against a terrible Eagles defense and figures to get the start again
this week if McFadden is out. Marcel Reece will probably steal some touches,
but Jennings should be the main guy if McFadden can’t go. Even if he can go, I
like him as a flex play this week. He gets to feast on another terrible Giants
defense this week and could again post solid numbers.
Others to look at: Shonn Greene and Donald Brown, Shane
Vereen, Andre Brown
WR:
Mike Brown: With Justin Blackmon suspended for the
rest of the year, Mike Brown is worth a look in deeper leagues as a WR3 play.
He’s posted double digit points in his last two games and, let’s face it, the
Jaguars are going to be playing from behind a ton this year forcing them to
throw a lot. I like Brown as a decent play for the rest of the year as a
WR3/flex type guy.
DeAndre Hopkins: If a frustrated owner dropped
Hopkins, you need to pick him back up. As noted above, Keenum has vastly
improved the passing game in Houston to the benefit of AJ and Hopkins. Houston
has a tough matchup with Arizona this week, but Hopkins should be able to put
up low end WR2 numbers for desperate owners.
Aaron Dobson: Dobson is off this week, but I’d add
him if I could. Kenbrell Thompkins was a healthy scratch last week and Dobson
has emerged as Brady’s deep threat target. With double digit points in his last
two weeks, Dobson could be emerging. He’s going to be a boom/bust type guy most
likely and still has problems with the drops, but the Pats seem to like him. If
Brady is indeed back, he could pay big dividends late in the year.
Others to look at if available: Kendall Wright, Emmanuel
Sanders, Rod Streater
TE:
Tim Wright: My top two adds this week would be Greg
Olsen and Delanie Walker if they’re out there. If not, give rookie Tim Wright a
look. Wright has three games of at least nine points in his last four (the one
off week being the week I had to roll with him). Quarterback Mike Glennon
clearly trusts him, and with Mike Williams out, Wright should continue to see a
decent amount of targets. For those of you who are playing the matchups between
a couple of tight ends, give Wright a look.
That’s all for now. As always, thanks for reading and good
luck!
