Hello and welcome to Market Fantasy!
Below you will find the updated consistency rankings for
week 4. The ranks are based on a combination of player weekly scoring average
and the standard deviation of the scores. A full description of how the ranks
are calculated can be found here.
As always, the players are listed with the relevant information so you can do
your own research and work with the info how you like.
For week five, here are some players to highlight as pickups
based on the ranks.
QB:
Alex Smith: So far this year, smith hasn’t really set
the world on fire, but as you can see, he is averaging 22.8 points per game
with a standard deviation of 5.7 points. What’s been surprising with Smith is
the 30 rushing attempts for 151 yards. Never considered a runner, those 15
points will definitely help. Dwayne Bowe owners might not be happy with Smith,
but that doesn’t matter as long as he is putting up the points.
Jay Cutler: We saw the worst in Jay Cutler last week
against the Lions: taking sacks, throwing terrible interceptions. But at the
end of the day, he produced some numbers as the Lions got out to a huge lead
and the Bears were forced to throw. This week when the high powered Saints
offense rolls into Soldier Field, he’s probably going to have to sling it some
more. The Bears defense hasn’t looked good and this has the potential to be a
high scoring game. The emergence of Alshon Jeffery to Brandon Marshall,
Martellus Bennet and Matt Forte as another weapon makes Cutler an intriguing
bye week play this week. The
Saints secondary is much improved, and you’re going to have to tolerate a pick
or 5, but the volume and numbers should be there at the end of the day.
RB:
Andre Ellington: Andre Ellington is an interesting
player in Arizona. While Rashard Mendenhall has plodded and fumbled his way
through the season, Ellington has quietly racked up a tasty 6.2 yards per carry
(albeit on 11 totes). What’s interesting is his 18 targets on the year. You’d
like to see more than 9 grabs from that, but it shows he’s getting looks in a
part time role. This is a guy that coach Bruce Arians says has the skill to be
a full time back in the league and with Mendenhall not looking good at all, he
might be worth a speculation grab. He’s averaging 6 points a game right now,
and could be working his way into flex consideration.
Danny Woodhead: Woodhead has been known to fantasy
owners for some time now due to his time in New England as the passing down
back/Stevan Ridley headache. Now in San Diego, he’s being seen in a more
favorable light thanks to everyone already hating Ryan Mathews. Last week, he
broke out with 20 fantasy points, skewing his average (and also standard
deviation), but the two weeks before that, he scored over six fantasy points.
With Phillip Rivers looking great again, Woodhead and his 90 rushing yards and
162 receiving yards look like a good flex play this week, especially against a
brutal Oakland offense.
WR:
Robert Woods: The WRs I want to mention today are two
rookies. The first is Buffalo rookie Robert Woods. So far this year, Woods has
averaged 8.9 fantasy points, with a standard deviation of 4.2 in Buffalo’s
surprisingly not terrible passing attack. Working opposite WR2 stalwart Steve
Johnson, Woods has put up 201 yards on 26 looks this year with 2 touchdowns.
What looks really nice is that robust 18.3 yards per catch. Give him a look
this week if you’re desperate at WR
Marlon Brown: I also want to mention Marlon Brown as
being remarkably consistent in terms of fantasy production. Take out his week 3
dud and he is averaging over 10 points per game, up from an already usable 8.2.
This week he gets a Miami defense that just got roasted by the Saints. Granted
Flacco is no Brees, but as long as San Diego keeps throwing 50 times to justify
giving freaking Joe Flacco a billion dollars, Brown should continue to benefit.
TE:
Garrett Graham: Wisconsin boy Owen Daniels gets all
they TE hype in Houston, but Garrett Graham is right there up with him
averaging 7.7 points per game. Take out the week 3 zero, and those numbers rise
to 10.2 points per game with a nice looking standard deviation of 1.9. Daniels
gets the looks and yards, but Graham has a TD in each game he’s played in this year.
It’s always hard to count on the Scott Chandler-esque TD or nothing TE, but
desperate owners in the bye could do a lot worse.
DST:
New Orleans Saints: Once a team that everyone circled
on the calendar for their players to match up against, the Saints defense has
done an amazing turnaround this year. They still give it up on the ground,
surrendering 449 yards so far this year, but their secondary has absolutely
locked down opponents this year, allowing only 769 yards through the air in
four games. Looking for their first defensive score this year, they might not
have to look any further than this week’s matchup with pick happy Jay Cutler. I
would expect a couple sacks and a turnover or 5 for the Saints this week.
That’s it for now. Who are you picking up this week? Let me
know in the comments. Thanks for reading everyone!
