Market Fantasy #9 - The Football FOW

Hello and welcome to Market Fantasy!

This marks Market Fantasy’s inaugural football edition. Much like I did for baseball, the first thing I want to introduce is the FOW – basically a fantasy version of the Dow Jones stock index. The idea is largely the same as baseball, but with a few minor changes. First off, due to a smaller number of positions in football, there are only 24 players in the FOW as opposed to 30 in baseball. I am also ignoring kickers for these purposes. I used a calculation I came up with for the values using pre-season predictions. As the season goes on, we’ll track the FOW and see how it changes.

Why create the FOW? Well, because I’m a nerd who thinks its fun to try to value fantasy players in terms of the stock market. Also, because we need an index to use when presenting some of the value calculations in future posts (like Beta in the next post).
